Dr. Jyoti Kamal is a founder and serves as President and Chief Technology Officer for Health Care , LLC. She also holds the position of Deputy CIO and Director for the Information Warehouse at The Ohio State University Medical Center (OSUMC).
Dr. Kamal is an accomplished IT executive with 15 years of experience focused on developing and deploying the latest information technologies in the area of data warehousing, data mining, business intelligence and translational research informatics. She also holds an adjunct faculty position at the Department of Biomedical Informatics.
Under her direction, the Information Warehouse at the Ohio State University Medical Center became the critical hub of information storage and management in the Medical Center, providing data integration, mining, training, and application development to researchers and clinicians system-wide. With her vision and strategic direction, the OSUMC Information Warehouse is one of the few in the nation which integrates patient’s billing, financial, and other non-clinical information with patient’s clinical record. This structure creates unique business intelligence opportunities for such areas as administration, operations, quality analysis, finance, strategic planning and education, as well as both clinical and basic research.
Working to optimize the use of Medical Center information assets, Dr. Kamal has pursued emerging new technologies to provide integrated near-real time access to historical information in both retrospective and operational roles. Her current efforts focus on expanding the use of operational Business Intelligence tools in clinical and research domains, the application of standard terminologies to aid data integration and data mining, as well as the adaptation of technologies such as text mining, image integration, and data visualization to enhance the information warehouse’s versatility in supporting clinical and biomedical research.
Dr. Kamal holds a Masters degree in Computer Science and a PhD in physics. Prior to joining the Ohio State University Medical Center in 1993 she held teaching and research positions at The Ohio State University. She has numerous publications on the application of data warehousing technology in medical informatics and is a frequent speaker on the subject.In her role as the CTO for Health Care , Dr. Kamal brings a deep understanding to the challenges and complexities of health care data, the increasingly important role efficient data collection and analysis can play in knowledge discovery, and how that data can be harnessed to enable more cost effective patient care and improve operational results throughout health systems. |
